Using Jet Probes in Automation

In automation, downtime is a critical challenge. A malfunctioning sensor can lead to the temporary shutdown of the entire production line, resulting in significant losses for the factory.

If a measurement sensor malfunctions, the entire production line may need to halt while waiting for replacement, resulting in thousands of dollars in losses for the factory. With pneumatic gauging probes, one potential cause of failure is if the gaiter (boot) is damaged, preventing the probe from extending and thus hindering crucial measurements.

SOLUTION

Solartron Metrology provides Jet pneumatic gauging probes, which operate independently of the compressed air supply. Even if a bladder is damaged or punctured, the probe can still extend by using air pressure to push the probe out as excess air escapes through a small hole in the side of the probe body.

- No downtime: With standard pneumatic gauging sensors or encoders, if the compressed air component is damaged or punctured, the probe won't extend until the bladder is repaired or the entire probe is replaced, leading to significant downtime. This is not an issue with Jet probes, as they continue to operate even if the compressed air component is damaged and can be repaired at a more convenient time.

- Measurement ranges of 2, 5, 10, 12, and 20 mm.

- Comparable performance to standard probes: Jet pneumatic probes have the same resolution and repeatability as standard probes. They also have similar lengths.

- Robust construction: Solartron probes have undergone millions of cycles of testing and are built within a stainless steel housing to withstand many years of use, including vibrations and temperature variations.

- Easy connection of multiple sensors: With Solartron's Orbit® network, up to 250 sensors can be connected together, including both contact and non-contact sensors.

- Multiple output options: With Orbit®, all data can be quickly outputted to a personal computer using software provided by Solartron or customer-provided software. There are also connectivity ports for PLCs based on Profinet®, Ethernet/IP®, EtherCAT®, CC-Link®, and Modbus.
