Apple Maps has started supporting real-time navigation when an iPhone is connected to a CarPlay-equipped car in the Vietnamese market.
Many people in Vietnam have reported being able to use Apple Maps' navigation feature while driving. When a phone is connected to a car's screen via CarPlay, the software provides turn-by-turn navigation just like Google Maps. Previously, this feature was only available when using the app directly on an iPhone or iPad.

When searching, Apple Maps offers full navigation functionality with arrows and Vietnamese voice guidance. The map also displays traffic conditions with colors such as red for congestion, yellow for moderate traffic, and blue for clear roads. The location data is not yet as extensive as Google Maps, but the 3D interface is more visually appealing than its competitor's.
Within the navigation interface, users can report traffic conditions at any location, such as accidents or incidents, which helps other Apple Maps users.
Apple's software also supports voice commands to find destinations, which can be activated with the command "Hey Siri," a button on the steering wheel, or the Siri button on the car's screen. Voice commands can also be used from the main screen to accurately call up pre-set locations like home or work.
However, through practical testing, the system for recognizing voice commands for certain street names is not as accurate as Google Maps.

Apple began deploying cars to photograph maps in Vietnam in February 2024. This is part of the company's global process of rebuilding its detailed data system for Apple Maps, which started in 2018. Following the update, Vietnamese users can use the Maps app on their iPad, iPhone, and MacBook with better navigation capabilities, richer details, and more accurate information about locations.
Vietnamese people still prefer Google Maps due to its extensive data, rich features, and long-standing familiarity. The car navigation feature of this software has been available in the country for over 10 years, supports Vietnamese, and is compatible with both iPhone and Android phones.
