In the aerospace industry, where accuracy and efficiency are vital, optimizing the measurement process is key to maintaining a competitive edge. Meyer Tool, a leading manufacturer of aerospace engine components in Cincinnati, Ohio, found a breakthrough solution with Renishaw’s Equator™ comparison measurement system. This solution not only effectively replaces traditional rigid measurement equipment, but also delivers significant cost and productivity benefits.
In the context of the manufacturing industry moving strongly into the Industry 4.0 era, automating processes to improve productivity and ensure quality is a key factor. At a recent major tech event, V-Proud introduced a groundbreaking solution: the SAS Automatic 3D Scanning System. This is not just a typical measurement device but a comprehensive system that delivers fully automated, precise, and efficient quality inspection capabilities.
The Equator–X™ 500 is a groundbreaking measurement system from Renishaw, specifically designed to provide the latest advanced measurement solutions for on-the-floor process control. With its ability to operate as two systems in one, this device offers a flexible and effective solution for manufacturers.
Renishaw, a world leader in metrology and manufacturing systems, has expanded its AGILITY® range of coordinate measuring machines (CMMs). The AGILITY range is designed and built for speed and accuracy, reinforcing Renishaw’s reputation for innovation in the most demanding industries. The machines are optimised for Renishaw’s REVO® 5-axis multi-sensor system, bringing new possibilities to the shop floor.
Product Development Nathan Fielder, Product Manager for the AGILITY CMM range at Renishaw, explains: “We took the award-winning REVO 5-axis multi-sensor system and asked ourselves how we could make it an even better solution to meet the challenging requirements of high-end manufacturers? The result is the AGILITY range – CMMs that deliver the advantages of the REVO multi-sensor system where it matters most: close to the point of production. The tried and tested AGILITY range, now including metrology lab machines, offers high-throughput platforms capable of using any of REVO’s seven specialist sensor types.”
Multi-sensor capabilities and machine architecture
These multi-sensor CMMs allow manufacturers to perform multiple measurement processes and report results on a single device. The full range of REVO sensors is available to AGILITY CMM users, including touch and scan probes, surface roughness, temperature, ultrasonic thickness, and non-contact probes.
AGILITY Series Expanded product line to serve both production and laboratory environments:
AGILITY S (CMMs for shop floor):
Provides an extremely accurate and robust solution for inspecting production parts in environments where clean air and temperature control are not guaranteed.
Available in working volumes from 700 x 900 x 600 mm to 1600 x 2400 x 1200 mm (X x Y x Z), with variants featuring increased working volumes to accommodate pallet loading systems or turntables.
All production models feature an increased Y-axis path for increased stability and protection from airborne contaminants. Larger S-frames feature dual-drive Y-axis configurations and dual scales.
AGILITY L (CMMs for lab and clean room):
Designed for cleanrooms, operating in a temperature range of 18°C to 22°C, providing high performance multi-sensor 5-axis measurement.
Elevated Y-axis design on one side with side stand improves accessibility for manual part loading when automation is not required.
AGILITY L frames have working volumes from 500 x 500 x 500 mm to 2000 x 3000 x 1600 mm (X x Y x Z).
Comprehensive control and service “In addition to the machine frame, the probe system, encoder, machine controller, linear motor, stylus head, workholding system, measurement software and even laser calibration and verification systems are all designed and manufactured by us,” says Leigh Elsworthy, CMM Customer Service Manager. “Renishaw controls the entire supply chain, installation and maintenance of the CMM throughout its lifecycle.”
